Professional and ethical behavior with the Code of Ethics

When dealing with professional and ethical behavior, complex questions can arise very quickly. A Code of Ethics provides a consensus created by experts, which can guide to professional practices for a specific career path. The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) provides such behavior recommendations for engineers and computer scientists. Moreover, there is a special version for questions on ethical practices in software engineering. The talk on June 2nd 2009 by Jens Oberender outlined the emergence of

Python Special

On 15 June 2009, Sebastian Henneberg gave a talk on “Python”, a multi-paradigm programming language used by large companies such as Google and organisations such as NASA. The talk gave an insight into the basic architecture as well as the advantages of and motivation for using Python. After this theoretical introduction there were numerous practical examples to illustrate the syntax and some core concepts. Downloads: Slides of the talk Examples used

Weekend of Code

eekendOfCode| The Weekend of Code is about writing a program from Friday Evening until Sunday Morning which will be scored by several different criteria (usability, efficency, creativity, …). The best teams (up to 7 people) will be rewarded. Allowed are programs of all kind in every programming language. But consider that a program written in Brainfuck may get better a score than a program in Java. Beside the competition the exchange between the teams is also an important aspect.

Preparation course

As every semester, there is a preparation course, which is held in the week before the lectures start. It includes an introduction to Unix, Emacs and the computer pools held by the pool administrators, a guided tour through the libary, a talk about the possibilities at university, e.g. visting foreign countries (held by IEEE and Fachschaft). You will have the possibility and time to get to know the campus, the pubs and your collegues.

Simplify your Backup

Ruby on Rails - Webentwicklung von morgen?

J2EE Courses

What is it all about? With the J2EE Courses we want to give you during 4 IEEE Specials an introduction into software developement with the Java 2 Enterprise Edition. We will try to demonstrat with small examples the possibilities of the J2EE. We use the open source application server JBoss and will publish all examples here, too. What is the J2EE? The Java 2 Enterprise Edition is a Standard for so called multitier applications in Java.
