Despite the pandemic, the IEEE Student Branch Passau did not simply disappear in the summer term of 2020.
As you can imagine, the contact restrictions and the fact that the university buildings, in particular the meeting room, were inaccessible made in-person meetings rather difficult. Our biweekly Stammtisch meetings therefore had to take place online from then on, more precisely via BigBlueButton. At first this was a bit unfamiliar, but fairly soon we knew how to handle BBB, after all there were computer scientists among us. The meetings were thus sorted, but it would have been a nearly bleak semester had it stayed at that. The simplest and most obvious way to bring people scattered across the country together was of course the online game night. And so quite a lot of time was invested in Cards Against Humanity, skribbl.io, etc. Of course we did not let anyone take away our educational mission either, and so spontaneously appointed experts gave the (mostly) willing listeners insights into randomly chosen topics, such as copyright law and grenade lore. The world premiere of the first fully digital IEEE SB Passau PowerPoint Karaoke was thus a complete success. Besides such serious events there was another semi-annual classic: Tools for your (S)EP. To improve the chances of participants in these internships, which are not exactly effortless, there was a series of Zoom talks with small live demos this semester. Around mid-July, when in-person meetings in smaller groups were possible again, we were even able to hold a barbecue, which, thanks to a roof overhang, did not fall through despite sudden rain showers.
As for most others, Corona, lockdown and co. brought some changes, but we were and will continue to make the best of the current situation in order to get through the pandemic more comfortably and to keep our usual routines as well as possible.
