On June 11, we again had a jRobots event.
For this event, Wolfgang Scholz of iteratec and Raymund Fülöp of Cipsoft came to Passau to hold the competition. Again, the fights were interesting due to a changed ruleset of the framework, which caused the participants to think of new algorithms. New features were a new weapon and a different behaviour of the sensors.

The IEEEXtreme is a yearly international programming competition
hosted by IEEE, where students all over the world try to solve programming challenges over the course of 24 hours. Four teams of three students form Passau took part in this year’s
competition. Further we were joined by two teams from the neighboring student branch at the OTH Regensburg.
To see our participants at work, cracking down on the problems (and
vice versa), watch this timelapse.

This year, again as part of the Campusfest, our 6. Eggdrop Contest
recently took place. Despite of rainy weather in the afternoon of May 23 14 teams took the challenge of constructing a device called “Eggdropper” to protect a raw egg from breaking while falling from a height of 20 meters onto the ground. To lift the Eggdroppers into the air a turntable ladder was used which was provided by the volunteer fire department of Passau which also allowed the participants to enjoy the view of Passau from above.

On 07/06/2014, this time as part of the campus festival, our Eggdrop Contest took place for the 5th time in bright sunshine. Nine teams took on the task of building a construction (called an Eggdropper) that would protect a raw egg from a fall of 20 meters. In the end, four of the nine teams succeeded.
To quickly and safely bring the Eggdroppers to drop height above the forecourt of the Audimax, an aerial ladder from the Passau Volunteer Fire Department was used.

The best teams (up to 7 people) will be rewarded.
Allowed are programs of all kind in every programming language. But consider that a program written in Brainfuck may get better a score than a program in Java.
Beside the competition the exchange between the teams is also an important aspect.
